EA
81 models use a torsion tube sprung suspension. The shock itself
does not support any weight, but rather it controls the rate of which
the suspension flexes up and down. To test the shocks, bounce the
corner of the car up and down. The car should bounce up, down, and
then settle. If the car bounces any more the shock may be worn out.

Support the
rear of the car and remove the wheel. Remove the 17mm thru bolt at
the bottom of the shock. Use a 17mm ½ “drive socket, a 10
inch extension, and your favorite wrench or breaker bar. The extension
allows movement of the tool outside of the wheel well. Keep the tool
steady and remove the 2 17mm bolts at the top. If the bolts seem
too rusty to turn, work them back anb forth
to clear rust from the threads

Removal of the
rear coilover in EA82 is the same procedure as EA81. But the spring
can be removed to replace the shock within. Secure the spring in
a compressor device, and remove the nut at the top to separate the
shock and spring.
