On ea81 models remove
the crank pulley. On EA82 Models follow the
href="timingbelt.htm" target="_parent">Timing Belt Removal procedure.
With the crank pulley
and timing belt sprockets removed, use a seal puller, or pry out the old
seal with a small screwdriver or pick, being careful not to scratch the
crank or aluminum. Oil up the new seal, and install straight and even.
Use the handle end of a hammer, or use an extension and lightly tap around
the seal until it begins to seat. Drive the seal in so that it is flush
with the outside edge of the motor. You DO NOT want to drive it in all
the way, as it may block the oil passages.

style='font-family:Arial'>Follow Engine Removal Procedure
On automatic models
you can slip a prybar between the holes and bell housing to remove the
bolts from the flexplate, and to re install them
On manual transmission
models you can thread a pressure plate bolt thru the box-end of a 10mm
or 12mm wrench, and chock the open end against an engine stud to remove
the flywheel bolts.
The
method is the same fro a front seal, although the rear seal is much larger.
Pay attention to your work, as sometimes air pressure will want to pop
the seal back out as you drive it in. install it flush, don’t bottom it
out
