My Subarus

I have owned several Subarus in the past few years. I was turned on to Subarus by finding a 4wd wagon for 100 bucks. I was impressed by the performance and handling off road, its durability, its engineering, and its serviceability. Some people are taken off guard by the Subaru. It’s as if they could never comprehend a vehicle of its nature. You would have to experience the Subaru to truly appreciate it.

I was into off-roading before I even knew about Subaru. I was off-roading anything from Pintos to Grand Ams. But the Subaru topped them all with its high revving horizontally opposed engine and its symmetrical 4wd driveline. Having 4wd in such a light vehicle can make for a quite capable machine. Lo range became most effective in mud, gravel and definitely snow. It would tow Camaros out of alleys with ease, boldly doing so where some Chevy truck couldn’t get to. This made for some interesting pizza and newspaper deliveries.

I could tear down alleys, nary a bottoming out on some good chuckholes. It had good landing characteristics once airborne, and handled the impact of garbage cans without a wince. And the motor never complained about winding up to the next shift.

Being a fresh automotive student, I found the car remarkably easy to service. The design is straight forward, and parts are easy to get to. You could literally service the whole car with a handful of tools.

Many are surprised by the versatility and performance of the Subaru. They trip out when you tell them your wagon is 4wd. It is odd to them to see the spare tire under the hood. And even veteran mechanics are thrown off by its horizontally opposed engine and 4wd driveline. But yet it is simple and efficient and a breeze to work on.

Owning and driving a Subaru comes with its pros and cons. A properly maintained Subaru can prove to be very reliable, but it is expected to get your hands dirty to keep it tip top. It is often for one to become passionate about owning, driving, and maintaining their Subaru.

I, myself, am very indulged in my Subaru spoils. I devote a lot of my personal time and resources to my Subaru passions. I would settle for no less. I guess I could say I’m obsessed.

Here is a list of the several Subarus that I have come across. The ones featured in this site will have a link
